Powering Australia’s Hydrogen Future and Inspiring Tomorrow’s Innovators: Ark Energy
Sep 17, 2025
Ark Energy, a subsidiary of Korea Zinc, is revolutionizing Australia’s renewable energy landscape by leading ambitious hydrogen projects and fostering future energy leaders. As a key sponsor of the Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP) in Australia, Ark Energy is driving the green energy transition and empowering the next generation to be at the forefront of innovation.
Ark Energy’s Hydrogen Vision
Ark Energy is on a mission to decarbonize energy supplies and create sustainable hydrogen solutions for domestic and international markets. With pioneering projects like the SunHQ Hydrogen Hub and the Han-Ho Hydrogen Hub, the company sets the standard for renewable hydrogen production, utilization, and export.
Key Hydrogen Projects
SunHQ Hydrogen Hub: Decarbonizing Heavy Transport
Located in Townsville, North Queensland, the SunHQ Hydrogen Hub is a state-of-the-art facility that supplies renewable hydrogen to power heavy vehicle fleets.
How It Works: The hub utilizes a 1 MW polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) electrolyzer powered by the nearby 121 MWac Sun Metals Solar Farm.
Focus Areas: The green hydrogen produced here will fuel the trucks of Townsville Logistics and other local heavy transport fleets.
Significance: The hub is set to become one of Australia’s largest integrated renewable hydrogen production and refueling facilities.
Han-Ho Hydrogen Hub: Exporting Green Ammonia
In partnership with Korean energy giants like Hanwha Impact and SK Gas, Ark Energy is developing the Han-Ho Hydrogen Hub to facilitate large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production for export.
Scope: The hub aims to export over 1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually, scaling up to 1.8 million tonnes per annum in the future.
Export Markets: The primary focus is supplying South Korea, creating a reliable green hydrogen supply chain between Australia and international markets.
Impact: This project positions Australia as a global leader in green hydrogen exports while supporting South Korea’s energy transition goals.
